Recycling: Managing Solid Waste

As part of its ongoing search for environmentally friendly processes, Emiliana has established a management policy based on the 3R concept of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:

Reduce
This step is considered at the time of acquisition and the search for products that use less packaging and/or are made with recycled or recyclable materials or that have less impact on the environment, and always under the premise of being sustainable products.
• Lighter weight bottles
• Less plastic film used in packaging

Reuse
This refers to the used products made of materials that can be used again in their original form. The objective is to lengthen the useful life of the product or packaging material to postpone its final disposal.
• Wine barrels no longer in use are converted to containers for collecting recyclables
• The signs used at the winery are made from staves and tops of old barrels.
• Bird houses are made with wood from the bins that are no longer useable.

Recycle
This refers to using a waste product as raw material to be transformed into another product.
Recycling as a systematic practice has brought a series of associated benefits, including:
• The reduction of the volume of waste products generated.
• Taking advantage of the resources available in recyclable materials.
• The proper management of our natural resources.
• The decrease in the cost of final disposal of waste products.
