Thanks to the winery’s ongoing dedication to working organically and biodynamcially over the past decade, this award is added a long list of others received over the course of its history, including the “Green Company of the Year,” received during the 2012 Green Awards organized by the influential English magazine The Drinks Business and that includes the entire wine and spirits industry worldwide.

London, March 2012. Sustainability and green consciousness are an ever-increasing reality in the world and in Chile. This time, Viña Emiliana was named the “Green Company of the Year” during the 2012 Green Awards competition organized by the prestigious English magazine The Drinks Business.

This is the highest category of these awards that cover the world’s wine and spirits industry. The award was granted to the company that best demonstrated its commitment to the environment, its employees, its community, and that has made consistent progress in its business practices to improve its carbon footprint.

“When we began this project more than a decade ago we were innovators and visionaries, and today we realize that being 100% organic and sustainable from the social, environmental, and economic perspectives is possible. We are tremendously proud to obtain this award and it motivates us to continue working in the same direction,” said José Guilisasti, General Manager of Viña Emiliana.

The 2012 Green Awards ceremony took place on Monday, March 26 in the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in London. Emiliana’s Commercial Manager, Cristián Rodríguez, accepted the award on behalf of the company.

What began as a dream more than a decade ago is now embodied in a complete portfolio of high quality wines that have received important national and international awards; a winery that adapts to the changing needs of the world’s consumers.

Recognized at the national and international levels, the award-winning Viña Emiliana was in the spotlight once again during the Chilean wine world’s most important awards ceremony, where it was singled out for the excellence of its wines as well as its respect for the environment.

Viña Emiliana stood out with the highest awards given at the 2012 Catad’Or W Santiago Wine Awards when it received a total of four medals for its organic wines, with the Adobe Sauvignon Blanc 2012 topping the list with its Great Gold Medal and Best Chilean White award.

The Novas Carmenere/Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 and Novas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 also received Gold Medals.

With the philosophy of “harmony between the highest quality of its wines and respect for the environment and its employees,” Emiliana is an authentic winery that uses biodynamic, organic, and sustainable agriculture to make its high quality wines and that considers the vineyard to be a living resource that must be respected.

Award-Winning Wines
Adobe Sauvignon Blanc 2012: Clean, transparent, and light greenish-yellow in color. Presents great complexity on the nose with citrusy aromas of lime and grapefruit mixed with light herbal notes. Fresh and fruity on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and good volume.

Novas Carmenere /Cabernet Sauvignon 2010:
Intense ruby red in color with aromas of ripe strawberries elegantly combined with spice such as black pepper and light touches of sweetness and toast from the oak. It is firm but silky on the palate, with well-rounded and elegant tannins, good volume, and a persistent finish.

Novas Cabernet Sauvignon 2010:
Deep ruby red. Aromas of cassis and tobacco stand out along with light notes of spice, vanilla, and jam. The palate presents good volume and great balance along with dark chocolate and soft, harmonious tannins. An easy-drinking wine with a long finish.

June 18, 2012. In a ceremony held at the Los Robles estate, Environmental Minister María Ignacia Benítez named the distinguished Chilean businessman and General Manager of Viña Emiliana, José Guilisasti, an “environmental leader” for his constant commitment to the development of sustainable production processes.

The distinction is a clear acknowledgement of Guilisasti’s innovative and visionary business project—to turn a traditional Chilean winery into a 100% organic winery that minimizes the environmental impact through the practice of organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Now 14 years into this ground-breaking project, Emiliana is now firmly seated in the national and international markets and continues to reap important awards around the world, such as being named the “Green Company of the Year” by the influential English magazine, The Drinks Business.

In recent years, the winery has grown by more than 20% per year and has surpassed the barrier of 400,000 nine-liter cases of premium organic wine and has increased its distribution from 28 countries to more than 50.

Today Emiliana is not only one of the largest organic wineries in the world, but it is also known for producing wines with a unique character and personality with the maximum expression of terroir. Its work is marked by its constant innovation and high production standards, which are reflected in a complete portfolio of sustainable, organic, and biodynamic wines, all pointing to a single concept: excellence.

It also emphasizes the commitment Emiliana has made to its workers, the community, and the environment since its inception and which is now reflected in 923 certified organic hectares, 583 biodynamic hectares, and 74 hectares in transition to certification, for a total of 996 hectares owned by the company in the Casablanca, Maipo, Colchagua, and Cachapoal Valleys.

Emiliana was the first winery in Chile to receive the ISO 14,001 certification of environmental management, as well as its international policy for social responsibility “IMO For Life,” the Fair Trade’s “IMO Fair for Life,” and “FLO,” which affirm its strong concern for its workers and the community. An example of this is the implementation of different CSR Programs, such as encouraging micro-companies, including organic gardens for its workers and their families, the development of natural honey, organic and biodynamic olive oil, and more. These projects allow the workers to generate additional income as well as greater self-sufficiency for their families.
