Viña Emiliana Recognized for its “Most Sustainable Launch of the Year!”

The now-traditional Green Awards, organized by British magazine The Drinks Business, awarded Emiliana the prize for “Best Green Launch.” Emiliana was also nominated in the “Green Company of the Year” and “Ethical Award” categories.

The Drink Business Green Awards draw attention to and reward leadership in initiatives in the wine and spirits industry around the world that protect the environment. It is designed to increase knowledge about the industry’s “green” issues as well as to influence consumer behavior in these areas. It provides a large platform for those companies that wish to show their commitments with this environment.

Emiliana is certainly not one to fall behind in this matter. Its ongoing commitment to producing wines in harmony with nature also goes hand in hand with its sense of responsibility toward its workers, who are never exposed to agro-chemicals that can harm their health and that of their families. Emiliana also develops a number of social responsibility programs that seek to provide benefits to the workers and the community such as organic gardens; honey, olive oil, and alpaca wool production; and scholarships for technical studies and training programs.

These characteristics led The Drinks Business to nominate Emiliana in three of its five major categories: Green Company of the Year, Best Green Launch, and Ethical Award. Finally, the publication honored Emiliana with its highest award for the launch of its Eco Balance wine.

Emiliana developed the Eco Balance line for its external markets, especially the United States. The wines are aimed at the “Millenial Generation” of people aged between 21 and 35, which is a group that seeks out new experiences and is more ecologically aware.

Emiliana created Eco Balance as a collection of high quality sustainable wines to be enjoyed on a daily basis. Emiliana conceived of these wines as a way to reflect its commitment to producing the highest quality wines guided by deep-rooted commitment to the environment and its employees. Every step of the process takes special care to protect the land, one of the essential elements for producing high quality fruits while minimizing the impact on the environment. The terroir in Emiliana’s vineyards is treated as a living resource that needs to be nourished and preserved for future generations. These lands produce the grapes that are 100% sustainable and have ISO 14001 Environmental Management and IMO Fair For Life Social Responsibility certifications.

During the awards ceremony on March 7, 2011, Emiliana not only received an award; it also gave one. The Chilean winery presented the “Green Personality of the Year” award to Australian winemaker Vanya Cullen of Australia for her long career as a tireless promoter of green practices, as well as being the first in Australia to convert her vineyard to carbon neutral.

Emiliana was also present in the ceremony with its Adobe Orgánico Reserva wine.
