Emiliana Gê stands alone for Chile on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 wines of the year.
The 94 points out of 100 that the US magazine Wine Enthusiast awarded Gê 2006 at mid-year placed Emiliana’s icon wine among the best 100 wines of 2010—and the only national wine on the list.
The magazine singled out icon wine Gê as “one of the Chile’s very best wines.” According to the magazine, this blend of 52% Syrah, 32% Carmenere, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Merlot stood out, describing it as “Dark, dense, spicy and full of everything nice, including cola, berry, earth and richness. The palate has ideal ripeness and power, and the flavors are a clever mix of light herbs, spice, chocolate and blasting berry. Long and sultry on the finish, with tobacco and immense complexity.”
“Gê is an elegant, sophisticated wine recognized for its tremendous quality and the expression of its biodynamic management in the vineyard,” explains Álvaro Espinoza, consulting winemaker at Viñedos Emiliana. “Gê was a milestone in the history of Chilean viticulture by being the first certified biodynamic wine in Latin America.”
In preparing its list of the year’s top 100 wines, Wine Enthusiast considered the score obtained during the blind tastings by its panel of experts as well other factors such as the price to quality ratio, its uniqueness, and especially, whether the wines had their own style that reflected the land from which they come.
Wine Enthusiast magazine
This prestigious publication from the United States is highly recognized for the carefully controlled conditions of the tastings by in-house editors and renowned panelists. Price is not taken into consideration during tastings, and only wines that score above 80 points are published.
Wine Enthusiast is one of the world’s primary sources for information on wine and related accessories, storage systems, training, events, and travel and is an important driving force in the market.
The magazine was founded in 1988 and therein began a long tradition of providing tasting notes to the general public and free of charge on their web site.
Today the majority of wine lovers in the US and much of the world turn to Wine Enthusiast when they need an exhaustive evaluation of a given product.
