Wine Access awards 93 points to Emiliana Coyam 2007
The February edition of the well-known Canadian wine magazine Wine Access ranked the biodynamic wine Coyam 2007 from the Colchagua Valley with 93 points.
The prestigious magazine also gave excellent scores to three other certified organic Emiliana wines: Adobe Syrah 2007 received 88 points, and both Adobe Sauvignon Blanc 2009, and Winemaker’s Selection Chardonnay Viognier Marsanne 2007 received 87 points.
unique character, and maximum expression of its terroir in the Mediterranean climate at Emiliana’s Los Robles estate in the Colchagua Valley. The wine is a complex blend of 38% Syrah, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Carménère, 17% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Mourvèdre.
Aged 13 months in French and American oak (80% and 20% respectively), the wine has an intense purplish-red color and expresses a harmony of ripe black fruit, berries, cassis, and forest fruits that blend delicately with the oak to deliver light mineral notes, toffee, and chocolate. Coyam’s production process was certified carbon neutral by the Germany company TÜV SÜD in December 2009.
Coyam 2007’s 93 points were complemented by excellent commentaries by the specialists who listed it as a wine in which “The aromatics and nose are replete with blackberry, savoury red fruits, floral mineral aspects and a dusting of toffee, chocolate and coffee. The palate is rich and smooth. Its dark fruit flavours preview a glossy, slippery texture that slides down effortlessly. Quintessential biodynamic fruit alive with flavours and textures. ”This recognition is added to the compliments that Coyam 2007 received last year in La CAV magazine’s annual awards when it was named Chile’s best red blend.
Wine Access also commended Adobe Syrah 2007, which it called a wine that “has been impresive from its first release and the latest is no exception.” The Adobe Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was described as a wine with a “A fresh, clean, bright, fruity style that is organic and tasty” while the Winemaker’s Selection white blend (also certified carbon neutral) was described as “a luxurious organic white wine”.
This latest recognition confirms Emiliana’s leadership and vision in making wines of excellent quality with a maximum expression of terroir, which it achieves through more than 11 years of experience in organic and biodynamic viticulture. The winery also consolidates the idea of constructing a sustainable project, which has been a leading vision in the wine world and reaffirming Emiliana’s tremendous degree of social and environmental awareness.
