World-renowned Biodynamics Expert Visits Emiliana

Alan York, a leading authority on organic and biodynamic winemaking, arrived in Chile in late November to visit Viñedos Emiliana. He is one of the winery’s international consultants on biodynamics, which has produced wines of maximum quality and amazing results. York also consults for the Benzinger project in California, one of the most widely recognized wineries for its quality and biodynamic management.

During his visit in Chile, York accompanied José Guilisasti through Emiliana’s 1,200 hectares of organic and biodynamic vineyards, which also include flowers, native vegetation, animals, and a great biodiversity.

Alan York explained that there are four pillars that all biodynamic vineyards must respect: that the land is biodynamically managed not only in its productive zones because that would be the equivalent of only taking care of one’s arms and legs instead of the entire body; that the natural resources must be managed as a closed system without mono-crops; that insects and other pests should be managed with a self-regulating system such as by introducing their natural predators; and the application of biodynamic preparations and sprays.

By putting these principles into practice, Emiliana has proven itself to be a leader in the wine world by building a sustainable project through organic and biodynamic production. York is one of the major international consultants to Emiliana, Chile’s largest organic winery.
